Thursday Aug 10th
10am-11:30 The Ancient Art of Kolrosing With HL Alizand Thorgeirsson née LeFevre
Come learn the ancient Sámi art of Kolrosing. Kolrosing is a versatile art form that can be used on wood, horn or bone. This class will briefly cover the history of the technique, then let you try it out yourself on a wood plaque. Handout available. This class will add additional information not available last year.
Class length: 1.5 hours
Size limit for class: 10
Age appropriate for class: Under 13 not advised unless accompanied by a parent (sharp blades will be used) Children 13-18 welcome with adult supervision.

1pm-2pm  Overview of Period Games with HL Isabella de Walingford Gamesmistres of Glymm Mere
Students will be introduced to the look and history of over a dozen period games.
Handout is $1.00.

Friday Aug 9th

10am -12  Viking Ring-chain Ornament with HL Thorbjorn.
Students will learn to make a Viking ring chain Ornament.
Ring chain ornament is an off-shoot of more common knot work that is distinctive of the Viking age and found throughout Viking influenced Europe. Class will cover how to recognize and reproduce several recurring ring-chain ornamental patterns. Bring pencil and paper to practice on.
Please bring a chair.
Maximum of 8 students No class fee.

10 am-12  Posament with Instructor Mistress Disa i Birkilundi

Posament is a textile embellishment technique using a wire coiled around a silk cord found almost exclusively in Birka, Sweden in the tenth century. We will discuss history, resources and creation methods for both the coiled wire (tentrad) and the posament itself.
Max 8 students, Cost $5

1pm-2pm  Overview of Period Games with HL Isabella de Walingford
Gamesmistres of Glymm Mere
Students will be introduced to the look and history of over a dozen period games.
Handout is $1.00.

2pm – 4 Simple Net Weaving with Her Ladyship Sigriðr Eirikskona :
Students will learn how to construct a simple fiber net for many uses and time periods and make a net to take with them. 
Max of 20 students. Cost of materials None (though a donation of any amount gratefully accepted.)

2pm Chain mail beginners’ class with Lady Hafþóra Krístna

Supplies available up to 6 people, more can join in if we share tools, or can be bought prior to class, two jewelry pliers smoothed, no grooves at any craft store.
Donation appreciated as jump rings are provided for the class, but not required.
Children no younger than 12 can attend. I will teach the basics of chain mail. Types and sizes of rings to proper style of holding pliers as well as opening and closing rings. Teach a little bit about chain mail history. And if time permits, can make a bracelet. This is a two-part class. Next class we will build on the basics and create a bracelet or necklace. Pattern to be determined later.

2pm- 3 Hammered Copper Penannular Brooch class His Lordship Hakon Thorgeirsson

Students will create a Penannular Brooch in Class. Students should bring, if possible, a dome & ballpein hammer and a round or square block of steel as an anvil.   A few extras will be available.  10 Student limit per class but please sign-up at Gate for your preferred day.

Marshal’s class at Autumn War with Phadaux

Time TBA Class will take 2 to 4 hours
It will cover the current book of target, range processes, protocols,  youth rules, scoring the different weapons, inspecting weapons, and some history of TW in this Kingdom.

Sat Aug. 10th
9 am-1 Spoon Making Class with HL Thorbjorn

Students learn to make a wooden spoon using a hatchet and caving knives.
Your own personal spoon is an essential part of any medieval person’s kit, and wood is the most readily available material suitable for making them. Class will cover from what to look for in the wood to care of the finished spoon you will be well on your way to completing. Basic carving skills and good hand strength are pre-requisites for success.
Please bring a chair. This is a 4 hour class.

Maxium of 6 students. Class fee $2.

10:30am -12:30 Four little Stitches with Mistress Elisabethe FittzWilliams:
The foundation for bigger things. Students please bring a small sewing kit.
Maximum number of students: 8, $2 fee

Time: After morning court on Saturday, until roughly around noon.
Scribal painting hour with L Hafþóra Krístna.
 We will have bookmarks, designed by our scribes, available for painting. Bookmarks, paints and brushes provided by the barony. Stop by and paint with us for an hour. Ask questions and learn what scribal is all about.  Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

11-12:30 “Basic Medieval Games” with HL Alizand Thorgeirsson” 
Come learn the SCA’s “basic favorite games- 9 Man Morris, Fox and Geese and more.
 Covers many YAFA Games, Div. 1 requirements. No age restrictions, youth must be accompanied by parent.

12am -2 pm Assisi – Italian  Long Arm Cross Stitch with  Kassandra of Dragon’s Laire
Assisi embroidery is a form of counted thread embroidery based on an ancient Italian needlework. A tradition in which the background if filled with embroidery and the motif is left blank (voided)
Students must know how to cross stitch before the class. Instructor will provide all class items.
Students bring their own table height chair
Max students 7, Cost $3.00 (Instructions, fabric, thread and needle) 2 hours

3pm-5 Foil Repoussé with HL Thorbjorn.

Students will learn the art of Foil Repoussé. Hammering metal to a thin foil and then impressing ornamental designs into it is amongst the oldest forms of metal work and is a recurring technique used throughout the medieval period. Class will review several historical examples and types of application and provide tools, materials and process instructions to allow students to try their hand at it.
Please bring a chair.

3pm-4 Wool Carding Demo with Lady Cait O’Murchadha
Learn both Wool combing and carding. 

Sunday
9 am -1 Hedeby Bag Handles with HL Thorbjorn. Students will learn how to make a set of Hedeby bag handles. The several “bag handles” found at Hedeby and sporadically throughout the rest of Viking age Scandinavia represent a unique historically accurate way to add structure and closure to bags and pouches. Class will touch on wood sourcing and provide material, tools & instruction to help you build your own. Basic carving skills and good hand strength are pre-requisites for success.
